According to United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a management concept whereby companies integrate social and environmental concerns in their business operations and interactions with their stakeholders. CSR is generally understood as being the way through which a Company achieves a balance of economic, environmental and social imperatives, while at the same time addressing the expectations of shareholders and stakeholders.
Some key CSR issues are: environmental management, eco-efficiency, responsible sourcing, stakeholder engagement, labour standards and working conditions, employee and community relations, social equity, gender balance, human rights, good governance, and anti-corruption measures.
We at Marina Beach Villas value the importance of equitable opportunities and working conditions. Towards this end, we have established the 'Marina Beach Villas Foundation', and begun with a focus on the working conditions of its employees. As a first step, the Management of the Company would help the children of all employees in the education field. To begin with, all employees earning less than Tk. 16,000.00 per month would receive a subsidy under this initiative that would cover education fees, books & study materials and uniforms.
These are early days for the Foundation and 'Education' has been earmarked to focus on the importance of this experience. An experience that has a formative effect on the way one thinks, feels, or acts may be considered educational. A right to education has been recognized by some governments as it is so in Bangladesh. At the global level, Article 13 of the United Nations' 1966 International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights recognizes the right of everyone to an education.
The corpus for the 'Marina Beach Villas Foundation' fund would be met by the proceeds collected from our current investors and well wishers. Most of our Investors are based in the US. I therefore urge you to support this very noble cause. Supporting the cause would be indirectly supporting the organization and any small amount or change that you can spare can be forwarded to our US Office in New York. I want to assure all concerned that both the Chairman – Mr. Hossain Jabbar & I will be monitoring the funds for the Foundation on a personal basis.
In time we will register the Foundation with the competent Authority concerned. Once established, the Board of the Foundation would be expanded to also co-opt some members for our group of Investors. All activities and current status of the Foundation would be kept updated on the Company Website on a regular basis.
As Individuals, the Chairman & I feel that an individual in the society has to think critically about various issues in life and take decisions about them being free from bias and prejudices, superstitions and blind beliefs. Thus, one has to learn all these qualities of head, hand and heart through the process of education.
Education is the noble way to eradicate poverty from society where a person develops various skills which makes that person self-reliant and selfless.
